Dialogues is a unique encounter between two of Málaga’s most prominent contemporary artists, conceived specifically for the Ateneo de Málaga’s exhibition space. Through drawing, a conversation unfolds where the artworks not only communicate with each other but also reflect the reciprocal relationship between art and reality: art imitates life, and, in turn, life seems to draw inspiration from art.
Aixa Portero has imbued her drawings with evocative titles such as Bosque Ramón y Cajal, Red de hipocampo, NGC 6543, Urdimbre, and Nervadura. These names serve as windows into each piece, inviting viewers to discover new perspectives and meanings as they contemplate the works. “Aixa has ‘woven’ drawings of nests, stars, forests of neurons, and hidden roots of thriving vegetation. Brinkmann has cast ink, letting art flow across the paper, allowing lines to cross, cluster, and dissolve as they search for the edge of the page. And when you see their works together, conversing, interwoven on the walls of the Ateneo, it feels more like the dance of two close friends than the work of two artists separated by time and style. It’s incredible how each has adapted their art to such an extent that they seem like artists who have collaborated for a lifetime,” remarks Cadena SER.
Dialogues emerges from a language that seeks to transcend time. The exhibition unfolds like an ethereal poem, with nature as its muse. Intertwined branches, reminiscent of neural connections, engage in a dialogue with abstract splashes in a kind of cosmic dance, where each cell becomes a miniature galaxy. Like a waltz of subatomic particles, in a profound symphony with neither end nor lament.
